If you are interested in buying an Exephials Lhasa Apso Puppy, there are certain things you should bear in mind

All Exephials puppies sold as pets have their Kennel Club Registration Papers endorsed, "Progeny not eligible for Registration" and "Not eligible for the issue of an Export Pedigree".

Kennel Club regulations allow me as a breeder to place these endorsements on a puppy's records,
The first, "Progeny Not Eligible For Registration" does not prevent a dog being bred from, but it does prevent this dog's progeny from being registered at the Kennel Club.
Similarly, "Export Pedigree Not Allowed" does not prevent a dog from being exported overseas (except to Malta), but does prevent the dog from being registered with an overseas Kennel Club.

These endorsements are solely to protect my puppies from the small minority of people who don't tell the truth when coming to buy a puppy, usually because they intend to use the dog only as a breeding machine and not as a family pet.
The export endorsement dissuades people who may be buying puppies to ship overseas for profit.

These measures cannot entirely protect a puppy from misuse but is one of the few protective measures a breeder can enforce, unfortunately it does discrimate against those in the majority who are genuine loving homes and sometimes this will mean a buyer goes elsewhere to buy a dog without endorsements, as they feel they are paying for the rights to the dog whether they intend to breed or not.
I fully understand this but I still choose to endorse my stock.
You will be asked to sign a contract at the time of sale stating that these endorsements have been explained to you and that you have agreed to the conditions of sale.

When I sell puppies it is on the understanding that they are to be family pets.
It is possible for me to lift an endorsement during the puppies life if I am confident that the person wishing to breed from their dog/bitch is going to do so in a responsible manner and that their reasons for wanting to do so are legitimate & that they will submit their dog/bitch to the relevant health checks.
This is no absolute guarantee that I will lift an endorsement, as sometimes a perfectly lovely, pet quality puppy, is just not of suitable breed type or construction to be bred from.

Anyone considering buying a puppy needs to fully acquaint themselves with the grooming requirements of the breed beforehand.
There is no point in paying a lot of money to own a breed as beautiful as a lhasa apso and having it look unrecognisable.(In my opinion!)
All my puppies are sold with comprehensive grooming booklets, so owners have the information required to do their own grooming, or to be able to tell when their groomer is not doing what they should be doing!!

I do not feel it is right sell lhasa apso's to any household where both partners are out at full-time employment and no other person is available to spend time with the dog during some of those hours.
This is a breed that requires a decent degree of company, neither do they suit living outdoors in a kennel.
I would ask that anyone contacting me with a view to buying a puppy has thought carefully about whether they have the time required to give a dog a good quality of life.
Dog ownership is a big commitment

All Exephials breeding stock is KC/BVA eye-tested to check that they are clinically clear of PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy). This cannot guarantee that any puppy sold will not go on to develop PRA but is as good a preventative as is available at the moment.
While PRA is not a widespread problem in the breed, prospective owners should be aware of it.
It is a hereditary, progressive, eye condition usually diagnosable around three years of age which begins as night blindness and progresses to total blindness over the course of the dogs life as the light reflecting cells of the retina gradually degenerate.
It does not cause any pain and most dogs cope with the loss of sight very well and sometimes the owner will not be aware that the dog is blind at all, still all measures to prevent PRA should obviously be taken.

I am always available for advice once a puppy is purchased, I also would always ask that in the event of a customer being unable to keep their dog, at any point during its life, that I be consulted as to whether I can take it in myself or help them find a new home.
